THE SCIENCE OLYMPIAD COMPETITION

Science Olympiad is a nationwide science competition that provides standards-based events in various scientific and engineering fields. With a total participation of over 8,000 teams and over 450 competitions each year, Science Olympiad provides numerous opportunities to showcase both individual and team achievements.

Tournaments

There are multiple levels of competition: invitational, regional, state, and national. Invitational tournaments, run by high schools and universities, are tournaments that serve as practice for regional and state competitions. Lynbrook Science Olympiad usually competes in 3-4 regional or national-level invitationals every year. In March, Lynbrook competes in the Santa Clara County regional tournament, and teams that place in the top 5 at regionals advance to the state level; the top team from each state then advances to the national level. Winners for each event receive medals, and based on overall performance, the top teams receive a trophy.
